Read the sample IELTS speaking part 1 answer on the topic of a number of languages you can speak. By reading this sample answer, you can get some ideas about different questions that will help you in the actual exam.
1. How many languages can you speak?
I can speak two languages fluently: Italian and English. Italian is my mother tongue, so I learned it naturally at home. English, on the other hand, I studied at school for many years, and it has become quite important in my academic and professional life.
2. How useful will English be to you in your future?
English will definitely be very useful because it’s an international language. It will help me if I want to study abroad, travel, or work in a multinational company. Since so much communication around the world is done in English, I think it will open many opportunities for me in the future.
3. What do you remember about learning languages at school?
I remember that learning languages at school was sometimes enjoyable and sometimes difficult. For example, I enjoyed reading stories and practicing conversations, but grammar rules were a bit challenging. Still, those lessons gave me a strong foundation, especially in English.
4. What do you think would be the hardest language for you to learn?
I think Chinese would be the hardest language for me to learn. The main reason is that the writing system is completely different from the alphabet I’m used to. Also, the tones in spoken Chinese make it quite difficult for learners to pronounce words correctly.
