Read the sample IELTS speaking part 3 answer on the topic: Do you agree that most beauty products are a waste of money? By reading this sample answer, you can get some ideas about different questions that will help you in the actual exam.

1. Do you agree that most beauty products are a waste of money?

Well, I wouldn’t say they are a complete waste of money, but I do think some products are overpriced, especially when they promise unrealistic results. Many people buy them because they want to look more confident or feel better about themselves, so in that sense, the products do serve a purpose. However, I believe quality matters — if a product genuinely improves your skin or hygiene, then the money spent is worth it.

2. How does the beauty industry advertise its products so successfully?

I think the industry is very good at creating a dream that people want to buy into. They use celebrities, influencers, and perfect-looking models to make customers believe that using a certain product will transform their appearance. Secondly, social media plays a huge role too — short, catchy videos and before-and-after photos are very convincing.

3. What do you think of the view that beauty products should not be advertised to children?

I completely agree with that view. Children are very impressionable, and if they constantly see ads telling them they need to look perfect, it can damage their self-esteem. At such a young age, they should be focused on learning and playing, not worrying about their appearance. Also, beauty ads often promote unrealistic beauty standards, which could lead to anxiety or body image issues later in life.

4. Why do you think people today care so much about their appearance?

In my opinion, a big reason is social media. People are always posting pictures and comparing themselves with others online, so looking good has become more important than ever. Another factor is the fast-growing beauty and fashion industry, which constantly introduces new trends and convinces people to keep upgrading their style. Also, appearance can influence first impressions, both socially and professionally, so people naturally want to look their best to feel confident and accepted by society.
