Paper Map or Google Maps

Read the sample IELTS speaking part 1 answer on the topic: Do you think it’s better to use a paper map or a map on your phone? By reading this sample answer, you can get some ideas about different questions that will help you in the actual exam.

1. Do you think it’s better to use a paper map or a map on your phone?

Honestly, I think maps on phones are way more convenient than paper maps. They’re easy to carry, you can zoom in or out, and they even show real-time directions. Paper maps feel a bit old-fashioned now, and I’d probably get lost trying to fold and read one properly.

2. When was the last time you needed to use a map?

I actually used a map on my phone last weekend when I went to a new restaurant in another part of the city. I wasn’t sure about the route, so I just opened Google Maps and followed the directions. It saved me a lot of time and helped me avoid traffic.

3. If you visit a new city, do you always use a map to find your way around?

Yes, almost always. When I travel somewhere new, I like to explore, but I still rely on a map app so I don’t waste time getting lost. Sometimes I also check nearby attractions or restaurants on the map, which makes exploring much easier and more enjoyable.

4. In general, do you find it easy to read maps?

Yeah, I think I’m quite good at reading maps because I’ve used them a lot while traveling. The GPS system makes it even simpler — it tells you exactly where you are and where to go next. But if I had to read a paper map, I’d probably struggle a bit because I’m not used to it anymore.
