The parents of your Australian friend Chris have invited you to a surprise birthday party for him/ her. Write a letter to Chris’s parents.

In your letter

  • Say why you think Chris will enjoy the surprise party
  • Explain why you won’t be able to attend the party
  • Give details of a plan to see Chris at a different time.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Collins,

I hope this letter finds you both in good health and high spirits. Thank you so much for inviting me to Chris’s surprise birthday party. I was truly delighted to receive your message, and I think it is a wonderful idea—Chris will absolutely love it.

Knowing Chris, he always enjoys surprises and cherishes moments spent with family and close friends. With your thoughtful planning and all of his favorite people gathered together, I am sure it will be a truly memorable evening. He has mentioned recently how much he has missed everyone, so this celebration will be perfect for him.

Unfortunately, I am very sorry to say that I will not be able to attend the party. I have a university exam on the same day, and despite my best efforts, it could not be rescheduled. I am genuinely disappointed, as I would have loved to celebrate with you all.

However, I am planning to take Chris out for lunch the following weekend to celebrate his birthday and personally give him his gift. I want to make the occasion special for him, so I am thinking of taking him to his favorite café and spending some quality time catching up.

Thank you again for your kind invitation, and I hope the party is a fantastic success.

Warm regards,
Saima
