In my country, children usually receive certificates, medals, or small trophies for good academic performance, like being first in class or scoring well in exams. There are also prizes for sports events, debates, and Quran recitation competitions. Sometimes schools give more practical gifts too, like books or stationery, which encourage students to keep working hard.
2. What do you think are the advantages of rewarding schoolchildren for good work?
Rewarding students can really motivate them. It gives them a sense of achievement and shows that their effort is being noticed. I think it also builds confidence, especially for children who might not always feel capable. Another advantage is that it creates a positive and healthy competition among students, which can push them to improve without feeling pressured.
3. Do you agree that it’s more important for children to receive rewards from their parents than from teachers?
Yes, I do think parental recognition has a stronger impact. When a child sees that their parents are proud, it strengthens their relationship and gives emotional encouragement. However, teachers’ appreciation is also necessary because school is where children spend most of their time learning. So ideally, both should play a role — parents for emotional support and teachers for academic validation.
4. Do you think giving too many rewards can ever be a bad thing?
Yes, definitely. If rewards are given too frequently, children might start expecting them for every small task. They may focus more on prizes than on the actual learning process. It can also create jealousy among classmates. So I think rewards should be meaningful and given only when a child truly puts in effort.
