To what extent has this prediction come true?
It was anticipated that the 21st century would bring significant leisure time for people with the advancement of technology. I do not agree with this prediction because an increase in inflation and competition for better living standards in the community has forced people to work more and have less free time.
First of all, the world is currently facing a high inflation rate in comparison to the previous economic situations. This has made it very difficult for people to make ends meet. People are struggling to provide basic necessities for their families. Consequently, they are doing multiple jobs to make ends meet, and this has deprived them of their free time. For example, when economic situations were better, people used to work less and earn more, and eventually had more leisure time in comparison to the current situation.
Furthermore, competition regarding living standards has increased a lot in the 21st century. People are striving for better homes and lifestyles every day to meet their social circle ideals. The struggle for an improved lifestyle pushes people to earn more money, which demands extra work. As a result, people sacrifice their free time. For instance, many people in big cities work extra time to afford big apartments and advanced technologies, and it deprives them of their leisure time for their family or hobbies.
In conclusion, it was thought that with the increase in the advancement of technology, people would have more free time, but in my opinion, it is not true because inflation has increased along with the race for a better lifestyle, and because of these reasons, people do not find any free time in the 21st century.
