Throughout my life, I have seen people spreading false information for personal gain. However, this time, I heard something from one of my friends that was completely false.
So, a week ago, as I was leaving for my university, I called my friend to pick me up from my home as usual. I waited for him for around 30 minutes, but he did not reach my home. After waiting for a long time, I called an Uber. At the same moment, he called me and told me that the university classes had been cancelled because there was a protest on the road leading to the university; therefore, the university is closed for today. I immediately believed him and cancelled my ride.
Then at noon, I got an email notification from my university, and it stated that I did not submit my assignment on time and my grade in the maths course had been reduced. I thought, how could I submit my assignment when the university is closed today? I was really angry when I read the email, so I called my professor for an explanation. To my surprise, I was astonished to hear from my professor that the classes are held as usual; there is no protest or anything.
I felt like my heart had stopped beating, realizing that my best friend had lied to me, something he would never do. In a hurry, I went to his home to demand an explanation, as getting an A grade was really important for me in the maths course. On reaching his home, I found out that he lied because his bike engine got some issue, and it stopped working halfway to my home. That’s why he made up the whole class postponement issue. I felt really bad, and I reprimanded him so many times. He was sorry for what he did, but I was going to get a poor grade because of him. Since then, I made a rule in my life to always cross-verify a claim or news, no matter where it is coming from.
