I grew up in a small neighbourhood on the northern side of my city, not very far from the main market area. It was a quiet residential place with narrow streets, small parks, and rows of modest houses. Although it wasn’t a wealthy area, it had a very warm and friendly atmosphere, and most people knew each other quite well.
The neighbourhood was mainly home to middle-class families. Many of them were teachers, shopkeepers, or office workers, and there were also a few elderly people who had lived there for decades. Children, including me, often played cricket in the street after school, and our parents didn’t worry much because everyone in the community looked out for one another.
Living there was really enjoyable because life felt simple and safe. For example, there was a corner shop where the owner knew all the families by name, and there was a small park where we would ride our bicycles and fly kites. The neighbourhood had a kind of close-knit charm that I sometimes miss nowadays, especially since modern city life feels busier and less personal.
If I had the chance, I would definitely like to live in that neighbourhood again in the future. Although it may not have modern facilities like shopping malls or high-tech gyms, it offers something more valuable, which is a strong sense of community. I believe that feeling of belonging is hard to find in today’s fast-paced world, so yes, I would happily go back there one day.
