Band Score Analysis:

  • Paraphrasing could be improved by not using the words [on the left side] [on the right side]. Here is the correct version: The diagram illustrates a café before and after the renovation.
  • Overview needs improvement. The student should mention that things like coffee bar, outdoor seating area nd barbecue sections are newly added. So the words ‘added/constructed/built’ should be used. Also, using the word ‘modernization’ is not appropriate according to this task.
  • The student should write ‘Before redesign or After redesign’, not ‘Before modernization’.
  • There are subject-verb agreement mistakes. The mistakes: [cafe were*] [cafe was* consist]
  • There are some missing articles. Correction: [into an* outdoor seating area]
  • There are some word formation errors. The mistakes: [bin to reused* material, it should be ‘reuse’]
  • We cannot use words like ‘western’ and ‘eastern’ etc, as there is no compass given on the map. We need to use vocabulary like ‘right next to, in front of, on the right/left side, etc.
  • The student needs to use appropriate verb tense for both maps. Past tense only for ‘before redesign’ and present tense for ‘cafe today’.

Band Score: 5.5 Bands

The map illustrates a college cafe and how it looks before and after reconstruction.

Overall, the cafe now have different types of food items, and more students can sit inside the cafe with the addition of outdoor seating.

Earlier to the redesigning project, toilets and bin are present on the right side of the cafe. The staff dining rooms were at the center of the cafe with table and chairs right next to it. If we talk about the kitchen, it was on the left side with a serving area in front.

But today, the cafe has outdoor seating with a barbecue section on the right. The toilets and bins remained unchanged but the staff dining rooms were converted into a takeaway food section and a coffee bar. Then the kitchen remained where it is before redesign while serving area turned into hot meals section. Finally, we can see a new salad bar on the left of the cafe as well.
