Well, a few months ago, I had an insightful discussion with my cousin, who’s a financial advisor. I had just started earning through some freelance work, and I wasn’t sure how to manage my expenses wisely. So, during his visit, I asked him for some practical advice about budgeting and saving money. He was glad I brought it up because many young people ignore the importance of financial planning.
We talked about how I usually spend my money on things like clothes, food delivery, and digital subscriptions, which might not be necessary. He explained the importance of categorizing expenses and recommended the 50-30-20 rule. According to him, 50% of my income should go to needs, 30% to wants, and 20% to savings. After the discussion, I started tracking my spending through a mobile app, and I noticed an improvement in how I managed my finances. I also reduced impulsive purchases, which helped me stay within my budget.
This discussion was really interesting because it changed the way I look at money. Before that, I used to spend without thinking. Now I realize that money doesn’t grow on trees, and I’ve become more mindful of saving for the future. It made me feel more responsible and confident about handling my own finances.
