Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing in response to your advertisement regarding assistance needed at your home during the upcoming summer. I would be very happy to offer my help, as I believe I have the right skills and attitude to support you.
I can assist with a variety of daily household tasks such as cooking, laundry, dishwashing, vacuuming, light cleaning, and even grocery shopping if needed. I am also comfortable helping with meal planning and organizing kitchen or storage areas. Since I enjoy working in a tidy and organized environment, I would be happy to help you maintain the same.
The main reason I’m interested in this role is that I genuinely enjoy helping others and making their daily routines easier. I also see this as a great opportunity to gain more experience in home management while earning some extra income during my summer break.
I am available from June 7th to July 14th, Monday to Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Unfortunately, I will not be available on weekends due to prior commitments. However, I am flexible and open to discussing specific timings based on your preferences.
Please feel free to contact me if you need any further details.
Yours sincerely,
Emma
Tip for IELTS Letter Writing
One of the key things examiners look for is appropriate tone and style.
Match Your Tone to the Letter Type
1- Formal: To someone you don’t know (e.g., hotel manager, job application)
- Use polite, professional language
- Avoid contractions (write “I am” not “I’m”)
- Example opening: “I am writing to express my concern regarding…”
2- Semi-formal: To someone you know, but not well (e.g., a neighbor or colleague)
- Use polite, slightly relaxed language
- You may use some contractions if natural
- Example opening: “I hope this letter finds you well.”
3- Informal: To a friend or someone close
- Use friendly, conversational tone
- Contractions and idioms are welcome
- Example opening: “Hey Sarah, I just saw your message and had to reply!”
