In the future, people may no longer be able to pay for things in shops using cash. All payments may have to be made by card or using phones.

Do you think this will happen one day? Why do you think some people might not be happy to give up using cash?

In the future, cash transactions in shops may become obsolete, with all payments being made through cards or mobile devices instead. I believe this shift will happen due to the greater security of digital transactions, but it may create difficulties for elderly individuals.

One of the key reasons this transformation may take place is that digital payments offer enhanced security compared to cash transactions. Electronic payment methods incorporate encryption, PIN codes, biometric authentication, and transaction tracking, making them more resistant to fraud and theft. Unlike physical money, which can be easily lost or stolen, digital transactions provide a safer and more convenient alternative. For example, in Pakistan, the introduction of biometric verification systems has significantly increased the security of online transactions, ensuring that only the rightful account holder can authorize payments.

However, while a cashless society may offer many advantages, it could also create difficulties for older individuals who lack digital literacy. Many elderly people have relied on physical currency for their entire lives. So, it will be difficult for them to transition to modern payment methods. Unlike younger generations, who are familiar with smartphones and online banking, older people may struggle to navigate mobile wallets, online transfers, or contactless payments. A clear example of this challenge can be seen in Pakistan, where the government recently introduced credit cards for pension distribution. Instead of making the process easier, this change led to a rise in complaints from elderly individuals. As, they were unfamiliar with the system and found it difficult to use.

In conclusion, while cash transactions may eventually become obsolete due to the security and convenience of digital payments. However, this transition may not be welcomed by everyone. Older generations, in particular, may struggle to adapt due to their lack of experience with digital platforms. Therefore, while a cashless society seems inevitable, we should ensure that every person can use it with ease.
