In today’s world, the citizens of various countries majorly comprise of young adults, compared to seniors. The benefits of this phenomenon outweigh the drawbacks because younger people are a powerful labor source and they are an essential factor for increasing a country’s economy.
A population that is mainly comprised of young and active individuals is greatly beneficial to a nation. Firstly, these individuals are strong and have the ability to work in all kinds of hectic jobs, such as construction workers, technicians, as well as firefighters. Since, these jobs require hard work which can only be performed by healthy and active people, and most older citizens are weak and require assistance. Secondly, a state’s economic growth is hugely dependent on young adults, as they are a major part of any workforce. Also, a great number of young professionals tend to move abroad and earn in foreign currencies. This plays a crucial role in building a country’s economy and GDP ratio. If there are more youngsters in a country, the nation’s success and achievements will increase as well.
The negative effects of this unbalanced population are the dwindling impact of traditions and customs on younger individuals, as well as lack of character building among the youngsters. Old citizens have a vast pool of knowledge about family traditions and culture, and they are the carriers of this information to their children. However, lesser proportion of senior citizens makes it difficult for people to develop any feelings towards specific traditional values. In addition, the older generation passes on their experiences to their younger generation and helps in shaping a strong and morally good character for them. In the future, these people go on to become moral members of society. Although, the role of old people is essential on a personal and social level, it is still trivial compared to that of youngsters.
